Project: The Embassy Center

The Embassy Center is a 10 acre, two city block site in historic Downtown Henderson.

The Embassy Center is comprised of a 25,000 sq. ft. Police Headquarters. There will be a large garden area and green spaces available for community festivals and outdoor events.

The Embassy Cultural Center will host a 35,000 sq. ft. Performing Arts Theater. A 40,000 sq. ft. State of the Art Public Library was completed in 2006. Adjoining the two is a 5,000 sq. ft. open gallery space used for a variety of public functions such as museum displays, book signings and art displays. The overall project is privately funded and fundraising efforts are underway. Tax deductible donations to this project can be made to :

Project: Restoration of the Historic Downtown District

Revitalizing the “Historic Downtown”, is an ongoing process with many storefront shops restoring their original construction. The Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission provided grants for improving facades, the process is through application.

 Downtown Henderson receives two HOPE VI Grants

The City of Henderson, local property owners and The Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission, have received two $1,000,000 grants from HUD, HOPE VI Main Street program to add 30 apartments above store front building on Garnett Street, the main street in Downtown. ReHab Builders from Winston-Salem will begin construction by January 2009.

Project: REEF Project

The REEF Project is a combined effort by the Gateway CDC, Henderson- Vance Downtown Development Commission, and the North Carolina Community Development Initiative. It is the intent to build renovate 86,000 square foot tobacco warehouse. The new facility similar to the architects rendering will house a new “Community & Business Center. Tentative plans are for: a Boys & Girls Club center, A off campus facility for Vance-Granville Community College, 5 Star child care, urgent care/medical clinic, various retail spaces, cultural arts, farmers market space and other spaces to be decided on in the future.
